Institute of Banking Personnel Selection(IBPS) –

It is an autonomous agency which has self–governed body. It’s main objective is to enhance human resource development through personal assessment for that IBPS conducts Common Written Examination (CWE) to select officers & clerks for Banks in India. CWE test is must for job seekers in Indian Banks whether in Public Sector, Govt Sector or Rural Banks(NABARD). IBPS time to time organises Exams for this purpose.

Selection through IBPS

IBPS has three Phase Selection procedures to recruit candidates. First phase starts with Common Written Examination, Interview in second phase and finally the placement. This Recruitment process covers following posts:

  • CWE for Probationary officers (PO)/Management Trainee
  • CWE for Clerical Assistant
  • Specialist Officer Recruitment IT, Law, Engineering, marketing
  • CWE for Officers & Office Assistants to Rural Banks.

Eligibility for IBPS

For appearing in IBPS Common Written Exam(CWE) the minimum qualification is university degree. Age is also an important factor but it varies with the post and age relaxation is also applicable with reserve category (SC, ST, BC, OBC & Handicapped) candidates.

Common Written Examination (CWE)

IBPS’s Common Written Examination (CWE) is one of the most competitive Exam. It has very high standard. Every year lakhs of candidates take this exam and very few get success. Now CWS is conducted in Internet Mode (Online).


IBPS conducts interview for successful candidates. Earlier Banks use to conduct the interview but after 2012 IBPS is conducting the common interview for successful candidates at different locations. After the interview a Merit List is declared and Banks recruit candidates from the Merit list for various posts.

Final selection

After first and second phase IBPS prepares a Rank List .It is used for current and upcoming vacancies in banking sector in India.
